| This discussion area is where girls could talk with other girls at their middle school. In addition to "social" messages, conversations in this area have included discussions about role models, differences between boys and girls, personal problems, and science projects. (High-school mentors had their own High School discussion, adult mentors had their own discussion, and teachers had their own discussion.) Some of the middle-school girls were typing for the first time. We encouraged girls to express themselves -- we did not stress spelling.
